| Aims |
| Our primary aim is to promote family history research, in as friendly a way as possible, which is reflected in our monthly meetings at Barton Road, where the members always extend a warm welcome to visitors, and prospective new members. |
| We have an active programme of indexing monumental inscriptions in our local area. We publish these indexes not only for the benefit of our own membership, but also for the wider family history community, in gratitude for all the many splendid indexes they have already compiled, and which we use. |
| As our group is located a long way from most of the national indexes, we place great importance on increasing our holdings. We have accumulated many of the Census’s on CD-Rom and microfiche; BMD. indexes, and the IGI. on microfiche; Monumental Inscriptions on CD-Rom, booklet, and microfiche. All of these holdings are available for our local members to view. We also have microfiche readers, which are available to our local members, for weekly hire for their home use. We continue to add to our holdings all the time. We also have limited access to the 7 computers at Barton Rd, which are used at our computer workshops. |

| New members |
| All new members who join our group will receive a welcome pack. This pack contains the following: an introductory letter, a list of the group holdings, a brief guide to starting out in family history, a blank pedigree chart, a list of useful research web addresses, a new member's questionnaire, and a list of all the books in the Lancaster Family History Group Library. |
| Newsletter |
| We publish a newsletter each month, except for the months of July and August, which we send to our members. The contents of our newsletter consists of: Group news and announcements, a list of new members with optional contact and interest details, and the largest section, which is compiled from the many interesting items contributed by our existing membership. |
